What's New.

The key to any sustained communications programme is content. A fresh and plentiful supply of interesting news and information that is relevant to the audience groups.

Local authorities are often complex organisations, with seemingly unrelated service areas operating under the same corporate banner.

What's new?

Well, there's always something happening, which makes for an unending supply of prospective content themes.  Not just for press releases either, but real insightful stuff that helps customers and stake holders to understand what is going on. Offering updates, perspectives, guidance and tips, case studies or even just putting complicated beauro-speak into simplified ‘this is what it means’ language.

The challenge is to encourage service areas to see the value and to find the time to contribute.

At Huntingdon District Council, I counted 53 different services within the main service areas. If each were to contribute something new just once per month that would still give 12 items of content each week.

Local authority websites generally need more interesting content to be published more often if they are to encourage customers to visit their website more often.

And, in doing so, to do more online.
